Sechenov University professor detained for keeping weapons at home
A search at Andrey Shcheglov turned up a sniper rifle, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, pistols and ammunition.
Moscow saw FSB officers detaining a professor with the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, Andrey Shcheglov, for possession of a Kalashnikov assault rifle, sniper rifle, pistols and ammunition for them, TASS reports with reference to sources in law enforcement agencies.
The weapons were found in the apartment of Shcheglov in a house on Kirovogradskaya Street in Moscow.
“During the search in his apartment, a Makarov pistol, remodeled from a gas pistol, AK-74 machine gun, Dragunov sniper rifle, Mauser 98K rifle, as well as more than 300 cartridges to them and a Tokarev pistol of 1930s model, were seized,” the TASS’s source specified.
The source noted that the machine gun is not registered in the police databases, and the Mauser rifle is not suitable for shooting. The ammunition was sent for a study. A criminal case on Illegal Possession of Firearms (part 1 of Art. 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) was initiated against Scheglov. The professor was released on recognizance not to leave.
