School where victims of Kemerovo mall fire studied went abandoned in emergency condition
After the tragedy, officers of the ICR came and searched the school; they intended to question everyone who was involved in the school trip to the mall.
The school in Treshchevsky village, Kemerovo region, the six students of which were killed in the Zimnyaya Vishnya mall fire, is in an emergency condition. A social activist Maksim Uchvatov told Moskovsky Komsomolets about this.
The school attended by about 70 children was established in 1975. It has not seen any major repairs since then. Part of the foundation has collapsed, there are no glass windows in some classes, the roof is leaking, the paint is peeling off, and the inventory is obsolete. The emergency staircase is about to collapse.
According to Uchvatov, no one would have paid any attention to the school’s state if it had not been for the Zimnyaya Vishnya tragedy. At the same time, the village has no money to repair the school. Treshchevsky has practically no budget and no jobs for local residents. It is impossible to repair the school on the villagers’ own.
The works are estimated at approximately 40 million rubles ($633.600).
According to Uchvatov, the leaking roof needs to be updated, the windows replaced, the gym and the dining hall repaired, and the sinks and toilets replaced.
Uchatov noted that the school head did not ask anybody’s help. “They are old school kind of people, raised in a village; they are so modest that they’re even afraid to ask a question,” the social activist said. The school’s headmaster revealed the school’s problems only after long persuasion. In particular, he noted that Rospotrebnadzor has sent improvement notices regarding the dining hall and the gym. Book shelves have been damaged because of leaks in the library. In addition, the school does not have a sealed road, so the adjacent territory wallows in dirt every autumn.
It was also reported that potatoes and cabbage are grown on the school grounds. In winter, the vegetables are stored in the cellar. They are used to cook lunch for children, whose parents can not afford school meals.
According to Uchvatov, one of the charitable foundations decided to help the school. The regional administration will add part of the funds from the budget. According to the provisional accounts, the replacement of the roof will cost 11 million rubles ($174.469), and 10-15 million rubles more is needed to reset the windows.
There are 157 windows in the school building. It is also required to change the wiring, which is “all rotten.” If the funds are raised in the near future, part of the work is planned to be held before September 1. The remaining work will be postponed to the next year.
