School teacher might face power abuse charges for commenting on student’s haircut

Investigators are questioning the school employee.

The Main Investigation Department of the Krasnoyarsk Investigative Committee has launched investigation into a conflict at a Sosnovoborsk school, which had demanded that one of the students changed his hairstyle, reported the press service on the agency’s website.

The conflict started on September 5. A fourth-grader came to school, where the teacher commented on his new hairstyle - the boy had shaved sides, bleached hair and a small ponytail left on the back to resemble his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Swedish footballer, LA Galaxy forward, and former captain of the Swedish national team). The school administration summoned the parents and suggested that they should home school their son if they are not willing to comply with the school standards.

In a statement to Komsomolskaya Pravda, a school spokeswoman said that a regulation on students’ appearance was issued on September 2 and it forbids wearing unusual hairstyles. The teacher found the haircut extravagant and remarked on it. After the media coverage, the head of the educational institution refused to comment.

At the moment, investigators are interviewing the student and his parents, as well as the school principal and the teacher, who made the remark to the boy. A power abuse case may be initiated.
