Russian woman gets suspended sentence for selling her newborn child

A woman from Yakutsk, Russia, has got 4 years of a suspended sentence for selling her newborn child, reports the media office of the Prosecution Service in Sakha Republic (Yakutia).

According to the investigation, in 2017, the woman gave birth to a child and sold her for 300 thousand rubles ($4.7 thousand), having registered the refusal from her daughter. Woman who had nailed the bargain had been bringing up the child for a year and a half. After that, law enforcement learnt about the fact that the child had been bought.

The woman who had sold the child was accused under article Human trafficking. Having taken into consideration the opinion of the prosecution, as well as the fact that the accused had fully admitted guilt and has other 3 children, the court sentenced her to 4 years of a suspended sentence with a probation period of 2 years.

According to the Prosecution Service, the child is still being brought up in a family that had taken her and where all necessary conditions are provided for her.
