Russian hotels fined $156.800 for inflating prices amid World Cup

The World Cup is currently ongoing in Russia starting from 14 June and will end with the final match on 15 July 2018.

The Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) detected more than 830 cases of overstating prices for hotel rooms before the World Cup. This is reported on the agency's website.

"In general, 832 cases of overstating prices for hotel services were detected (32 accidents were detected during the week) and 237 hotels have no certificates," the report says.

Rospotrebnadzor clarifies that 1850 unscheduled inspections were carried out, after which a total of 2508 administrative offenses were filed. The court considered 271 lawsuits, and the total amount of administrative fines imposed exceeded 10 million rubles ($156.800).

The World Cup is currently ongoing in Russia starting from 14 June and will end with the final match on 15 July 2018.
