Renato Usatii involved in Zakharchenko case detained after leaving for Moldova
The businessman and politician was detained right on the border.
The leader of Nasha Partiya Renato Usatii, who was returning home, was detained at a Sculeni checkpoint, when he tried to enter Moldova from Romania. This is reported by Moldovan Publika referring to the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases. According to the publication, after that, Usatiy was taken to Chisinau for interrogation.
At the same time, the former mayor of Balti was met by dozens of his supporters on the border. To recall, Renato Usatii, who is charged with organizing an attempt at banker German Gorbuntsov, fled Moldova in the autumn of 2016. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
Previously, media reported about Usatii's ties with criminal groups in Moldova and Russia, including crime lord Grigory Karamalak and the Solntsevo organized crime group.
The CrimeRussia previously reported that Usatii was also put on the wanted list in Russia in the case of billionaire Colonel Dmitry Zakharchenko, who has been recently sentenced to 13 years’ rigorous imprisonment. Usatii carried out special assignments for the group that received multibillion-dollar state orders from Russian Railways and paid Zakharchenko for “protection.”
Presumably, it concerns the US response to Ukraine’s help in the investigation against Joseph Biden, Trump’s main rival in the 2020 presidential election, who allegedly was in collusion with Kiev during the previous campaign.
