Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the abolition of the Federal Agency for Special Construction (Spetsstroy). According to the Kremlin press service, all procedures, connected with the liquidation of the agency, will be completed before July 1, 2017.

- In order to improve public administration ... I resolve to abolish the Federal Agency for Special Construction, - stated in the decree.

According to the document, Spetsstroy functions are transferred to the Ministry of Defense of Russia.

Earlier, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu filed for the abrogation of Spetsstroy.

He announced that instead of the liquidated structure it will be created the Federal State Unitary Enterprise, which will be engaged in the construction of special facilities for the Defense Ministry.

Some media reports associated the elimination of Spetsstroy with a series of scandals. During 2014-2016 years, Spetsstroy has figured in a series of arrests upon high-profile criminal cases related to embezzlement (including the construction of the Vostochniy cosmodrome).

In particular, Head of one of the Department's Office Alexander Shashkin and former Head of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Dalspetsstroy Yuri Hrizman are under investigation.
