Prosecution demands 5 years probation for Navalny
The defendants caused a 16-million-ruble damage to Kirovles, the prosecution claims.
The Prosecutor asked to sentence the opposition leader to five years probation and a fine of 500 thousand rubles at the trial on Kirovles case.
Petr Ofitserov should get a 4-year suspended sentence and the same fine, according to the prosecution.
During the trial, Prosecutor Bogdanov outlined the usual accusations: according to his version, Navalny and Ofitserov had conspired to create Vyatskaya Lesnaya Kompaniya (Vyatka Timber Company), Ofitserov "drafted a purposefully disadvantageous contract and signed it on behalf of the VLK", the defendants are trying to justify themselves, "intentionally omitting the points that could incriminate them."
According to the prosecutors, the defendants caused a 16-million-ruble damage to Kirovles. The defense repeated more than once that Navalny and Ofitserov could not possibly have stolen timber worth 16 million rubles if they sold the timber they got from the unitary enterprise and paid 14 million to Kirovles. The prosecuting party spared the argument in an unexpected way, saying they take into account the amount of damage at the time of the crime rather than any actions that may follow.
The prosecutors want the former Russian Federation Council member to go to prison for 14 years instead of 9 and pay a 500-million-ruble ($8.8 million) fine instead of 70 million rubles ($1.2 million).
