Professor Sokolov and Anastasia at costume party, video
The video was taken in February 2018.
A video appeared on social media with Oleg Sokolov, the former assistant professor at the Institute of History of St. Petersburg State University, who killed and dismembered his student. His victim, graduate student Anastasia Yeshchenko, is seen as his date at the Bastille Days party.
The video was published by Mash at the Moika on VKontakte. It was taken in February 2018. Oleg Sokolov and Anastasia Yeshchenko dance in the Neidhardt Mansion on Zakharyevskaya Street, drink champagne and have small talk. It was a reenactment of the 1808 ball at Princess de la Tour et Tassis’s.
In the video, Oleg Sokolov greets everyone in French with a Corsican accent. “I am very pleased to see you all this evening,” says the former associate professor.
Oleg Sokolov is suspected of the brutal murder of his 24-year-old graduate student Anastasia Yeshchenko. According to investigators, the 63-year-old professor shot her and then tried to get rid of the body, dismembering it and throwing it into the Moika River.
On the evening of November 11, the scholar, who is considered one of the founders of historical reenactment in Russia, was detained and placed into custody until January 8, 2020. After that, he was fired from the university.
