Policeman charged for failure to prevent murder of world champion Drachev
Andrey Drachev

One of Drachev’s friends that turned out to be a policeman not only was not trying to prevent the crime, but even told Rosgvardiya officers who had arrived at the scene to stay out of it.

A criminal case has been instituted against a police officer who was observing a street fight in which Andrey Drachev, the world and European champion in powerlifting, was killed.

As reported by Interfax, the policeman in a state of alcoholic intoxication, was among friends of Anar Allahveranov accused of the murder. He not only did not intervene himself, despite having real chance to prevent the murder, but even persuaded the Rosgvardiya officers who had arrived at the scene to take no measures to stop Allahveranov.

The investigation noted: "the policeman was inactive as an official acting out of what he thought was good fellowship.”

The Investigation Unit of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Khabarovsk region reported that the former junior sergeant of the patrol and police service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Khabarovsk was charged under part 3 of Art. 285 of the Criminal Code (Abuse of Official Powers). The Prosecutor's Office of the region also controls the case.

Anar Allahveranov

Earlier, the CrimeRussia reported that Anar Allahveranov’s friend who had been watching the fight was dismissed from service. The Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Khabarovsk region decided to punish his immediate supervisors severely up to and including dismissal.

We should remind that Rosgvardiya Eastern District officers were suspected of inaction, too. However, an inspection showed that the patrol came on the call, pulled the fighters apart and left. Since no complaints came from the fighting men or the watchers, the guards left on another call.

Andrey Drachev was killed on August 20, 2017 during a street fight in Khabarovsk city center. He was a famous powerlifter and bodybuilder.

The suspect, Anar Allahveranov, disappeared from the crime scene; he was arrested in absentia. Then he was put first on the federal wanted list and then on the international one. On September 19, Allahveranov turned himself in. Currently, the ICR is checking whether he has been involved in similar crimes: the murderer is known to be a professional martial arts athlete and have quite a reputation in Khabarovsk nightclubs.
