Police detain alleged attackers of Kuban former vice-governor’s family
According to preliminary data, two ex-convicts of Krasnodar committed the assault.
The police detained two suspects in the brutal attack on the family of Murat Akhedzhak, the former vice-governor of the Krasnodar Region. According to preliminary reports, two men of Krasnodar - Sergei Ponomarev, 50, and Ivan Kononenko, 34, are responsible for the assault; both have prior convictions.
According to Yugopolis’s sources, the criminals were detained in the village of Yablonovsky and jailed in the Takhtamukai district of Adygea.
As previously reported, the attack was committed in the early hours of 9 May, when two masked and armed men burst into the house of Murat Akhedzhak’s parents - Kazbek Izmailovich and Luiza Yusufovna. Murat’s sister was at their house, too, at the time. The victims were tortured with cruelty. Beaten and bound, they stayed in the house for more than 24 hours, until their worried relatives came by.
The official’s mother of 79 died, while the rest of the family members were seriously injured. His 80-year-old father and 49-year-old are currently in the intensive care unit of the Krasnodar Hospital #1.
The Investigation Department of the Takhtamukai district in the Republic of Adygea initiated a criminal case under the articles "Murder" and "Robbery."
According to a theory, Kazbek Izmailovich’s business could have been the motive.
Initially, the defendants in the case had been charged with embezzlement through swindling in the amount of 225 million rubles ($3.3 million). In the final version of the indictment, the article was changed to 1.5-billion-ruble ($22.45 million) embezzlement.
