PETA urges UFC to punish Khabib Nurmagomedov for fighting bear cub
Animal rightists have criticized a Russian MMA fighter and an UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
International organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has criticized Khabib Nurmagomedov after a video that shows the Russian fighter beating a chained up bear cub. The animal rights activists say Khabib must confine himself to sticking to “wrestling with willing human opponents” only.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to UFC with a request to impose sanctions upon Nurmagomedov, as there emerged a video that shows the UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov wrestling a chained up bear cub. The video appeared on an Instagram account dedicated to MMA.
PETA UK director Elissa Allen told Business Insider that “wrestling with a chained bear is loathsome behavior that shows an utter lack of respect for and consideration of who these animals are.”
“Those used in Russia for ‘boxing,’ ‘dancing,’ or other archaic forms of entertainment are typically torn from their mothers as cubs, chained, caged, muzzled, beaten, and deprived of everything that’s meaningful to them,” the animal advocate said. Allen’s organization believes that UFC must evaluate its relationship with Mr. Nurmagomedov until he shows a clear change in attitude and a commitment to showing animals the respect.
The representative of PETA urged Khabib Nurmagomedov “to stick to wrestling with willing human opponents.”
