People on social media teaming up to create page with info on BlaBlaCar thugs
People react to the news that a female app user, 29, was murdered.
People on Vkontakte suggested creating a public page where those who have information that certain BlaBlaCar users are criminals could share it. The reaction came after the news that a female app user, 29, was murdered.
“I suggest creating a public page where freaks like him would be identified by their online behavior before they kill our children and loved ones in real life. Who’s with me, let’s team up”, one of the users suggested.
People have left many comments on the profile of the murder suspect. They wished him to remain in custody for as long as possible, and former law enforcement officers said they would talk to him like men do.
Irina Akhmatova, the general manager of two Moscow Burger King restaurants, disappeared on December 23, after she hit the road going from Moscow to Tula and took a fellow traveler she found using the BlaBlaCar app. Later, Akhmatova’s car, clean as new, was found outside a Yaroslavl supermarket. Vitaly Chikirev of Serpukhov was detained on suspicion of committing the crime. As it turned out, the man was previously convicted for rape and robbery, and served as a riot police officer in the past. He used a fake name for registration in the app.
He had planned the crime in advance: he created several fake accounts on an app for searching travel companions, including female ones. It is noted that the criminal booked all the seats in Irina Akhmatova’s car.
After publicity in the media, the man kept low profile; he went first to his relatives in Vladimir, where he stayed at a friend’s. Then he decided to flee to Nizhny Novgorod, but the car that he drove with the Vladimir friend was pulled over near the town of Gorokhovets; both were detained.
The detainee has confessed and will be charged with homicide. He could be charged with rape, too. Although he has not confessed to it yet, he has not been giving direct answers to related questions.
