Nizhny Novgorod: Prosecutor gets dismissed for poor results of anti-corruption activities
Oleg Ponasenko will soon be dismissed from the post of head of the regional department of a supervisory agency.
Nizhny Novgorod Prosecutor Oleg Ponasenko is facing dismissal, according to Kommersant’s source in the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. Dismissal of the department head may be officially announced as soon as the next week.
The decision to dismiss the prosecutor was taken due to poor results of anti-corruption activities in the region, as well as due to problems of deceived investors that have gotten worse lately, according to Kriminalnaya Khronika’s agency source. For example, Nizhny Novgorod residents that fell victims to local real estate scams wrote about their problems to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
However, the prosecutor may be getting dismissed "due to certain political powers willing to appoint an insider to the position," according to another source of the agency.
It is worth mentioning that Ponasenko has officially gone on vacation. His first deputy Evgeny Denisov is the acting head of the department for now.
The deputy director of the institution Imuschestvo (Property), Alexander Ivanov, and deputy director of the property fund of St. Petersburg, Ilya Zhinkin, gave companies the pre-emptive right to buy out the areas on Nevsky.
The opposition leader was detained in the afternoon of February 22 in Moscow while he was walking out of a dental clinic. Navalny is accused of a second participation in an unsanctioned event, for which he faces up to 30 days of jail.
No violations have been revealed in the criminal prosecution of Colonel Zakharchenko’s family members. The appeal of lawyer Emelyanov to the president was forwarded to the Prosecutor General's Office and the ICR.
