National park deputy director who organized hunt for Zhigulevskie gang detained
He is charged with exceeding official powers.
The FSB of the Samara region reported that deputy director of the Samarskaya Luka National Park for the Protection of Territory and Ecological Safety Valery Ovchinnikov was detained. He is suspected of organizing illegal hunting in the reserve. For exceeding his official powers, he faces a fine, or a term of up to seven years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for up to three years.
Earlier, Ovchinnikov was already involved in a criminal case, and then he was also charged with exceeding official powers.

Law enforcement officers established that the park staff built towers with feeding grounds to attract animals on his behalf. The meat of moose, roe deer, wild boars, and hares was sold in the restaurants controlled by the group.
