National Guard officer opened fire on traffic police and killed himself

The incident took place in the Nizhny Novgorod region during the night of March 11 to 12. An inspection into what happened is currently being carried out.

A contract soldier of the National Guard of Russia opened fire on traffic police officers, who tried to stop him for dangerous driving in Dzerzhinsk. As reported by the press service of MIA General Administration in the region, the police officers had to pursue the soldier's car for some time.

"When he stopped and traffic police officers began to approach him, he fired at them with a gun, and then shot himself in the head," the press service chairman said.

The shot was fatal. Another police officer was wounded and hospitalized. The information about the incident with the National Guard soldier has been confirmed by the agency's press service for the Volga Federal District, noting that the man was a contract soldier. According to the preliminary version, family and household problems could have served as a motive for the crime.
