Murdered major cases investigator sat over Aeroflot’s miles scam case
Evgenia Shishkina received threats after she led the investigation into the fraud.
The investigator of the Transport Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Central Federal District, Evgenia Shishkina, who was killed in the Moscow region on the eve, investigated a large-scale criminal case of a criminal community that had been stealing Aeroflot loyalty program bonus miles. Kommersant reports citing its sources.
The case was qualified as a Creation of the Criminal Community (Article 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The group consisted of about 20 people. They sent fake SMS messages to the participants of the Aeroflot Bonus program and received access to accounts of those who inadvertently corresponded with them. After that, they turned off notifications about logging into, got access to the bonuses and sold them in specialized communities to those who want to buy tickets at a discount.
The investigation, according to sources of Kommersant, was complicated. In particular, legal intricacies hampered the work: the participants in the research argued whether bonuses, which had no material value, could be considered as embezzlement, and who is the victim – Aeroflot or its clients.
After the beginning of the investigation, Shishkina faced threats. In January, unidentified persons burned her car parked near the house. The investigator filed reports with the leadership several times, but the police failed to link the threats and arson with the case under investigation. Nevertheless, Shishkina was offered state protection. As it became known earlier, the investigator refuted the offer. This information was confirmed by representative of the Main Investigative Department of the ICR in the Moscow region Olga Vradiy, RBC reports.
On the morning of October 10, unknown persons shot Shishkina dead at the entrance of her house in the village of Arkhangelskoe. It is noted that the killers were not professionals: at the time of the shooting, they hid from the surveillance cameras installed on the wall of the house but fled in their direction. According to participants in the investigation, two young men, whom witnesses can identify, hit CCTV footages. The case of the Shishkina’s murder is transferred to the ICR central office. The investigation is under the personal control of Alexander Bastrykin. Also, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB joined the study.
