Moscow Region: Priest and his family die in car accident, policeman tried
A drunk driving case against a former police officer has been referred to court in the Moscow region. The accident claimed the life of a priest and his family.
The accident occurred on September 24, 21016, according to investigators. The drunk officer was going over the limit on his Mercedes Е240 on the Yaroslavskoe Highway in the direction of Pushkino when he began changing lanes, lost control of the car, swerved into the wayside and crashed into a Suzuki the priest and his family were in. The Japanese car driver and three of his passengers including a baby died due to the collision. Another child was taken to hospital.
The investigation has been complete and the case file alongside with an approved indictment was referred to the Pushkin Town Court, according to the office of public affairs of the local Public Prosecutors’ Office. The officer was charged with violation of article 264, part 6 (Violation of Traffic Rules and Rules for Operation of Transport Vehicles Committed by a Person who is in a State of Drunkenness, which Action has, by Negligence, Caused the Death of Two or more Persons) of the Russian Criminal Code.
It is worth mentioning that the officer and his immediate superiors were dismissed after the incident. It is also worth mentioning that he survived the collision with nary a scratch.
