Moscow City Court not released businessman Mikhalchenko from pre-trial detention center
Protection of the holding Forum general director demanded release on bail.
The Moscow City Court extended the term of arrest to Forum holding CEO Dmitry Mikhalchenko, who is charged with smuggling elite alcohol, until the end of June.
In addition, the term of arrest was extended to another person involved in the case, deputy of Mikhalchenko Boris Korevsky, and the house arrest term of deputy director of the Contrail Logistic Northwest firm Anatoly Kindzersky was also prolonged.
The defense of all three defendants solicited their release on bail, but the judge took the side of the investigation, which insisted that the accused would hide or interfere with the investigation if they were at large.
It is noted that for Mikhalchenko the lawyer offered a pledge of 100 million rubles ($1.7m).
According to investigators, in 2015 Mikhalchenko organized smuggling of expensive wines and other elite drinks. Through intermediaries, the businessman bought products in the shops of the European Union; then it crossed from Hamburg to Russia in containers under the guise of a sealant.
The Kuybyshevsky District Court of St. Petersburg is to consider the third case against Barsukov (Kumarin), as part of which he is charged with criminal community creation. Previously, the 'night governor of St. Petersburg' had been held in the Moscow's Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center. It is also reported that Barsukov is to be questioned in the case of Galina Starovoytova's murder.
