Mayor of Urals town calls for “a hearty laugh” to commemorate victims of terrorist attack
The speech provoked much resentment on social media.
Krasnoufimsk Mayor Vadim Artemyevskikh announced that the event was dedicated to the victims of St. Petersburg terrorist attack in an opening speech of the KVN (Russian humor TV show and competition), town league.
"The KVN today is having a very difficult time. You know there was a terrorist attack in St. Petersburg, people died. But I believe that today we must have a real party so that no terrorist has a sense of accomplishment from what they did. We are going to have a hearty laugh that we can dedicate to all those people who died," said the official, whose speech was videotaped.
The expression triggered a wide negative response on social media.
