Mass brawl in Dagestan committed by wrestler who desecrated statue of Buddha in Kalmykia
The athlete has been sentenced to two years probation.
In Makhachkala, the police are establishing the circumstances of the mass brawl that occurred in the city center on May 9. The reason for it was a fight between two drivers, one of whom drove a Priora, and the other a vintage car from the holiday motorcade.
Preliminary information indicates that the Priora driver blocked the movement to the motorcade. After that, a verbal skirmish broke out between the men, and then the Priora driver hit the opponent in the face. It gave rise to a mass brawl at the intersection.
According to preliminary information, the instigator of the brawl is 24-year-old Sayid Osmanov. Law enforcers know him well. Two years ago, he publicly desecrated the monument to the Buddha in Elista during the All-Russian tournament in Greco-Roman wrestling. A criminal case was initiated against the Dagestani athlete after a video appeared on the web, in which he was practicing his moves on the sacred Buddhist statue.
As a result of the scandal, Osmanov’s coach was dismissed, and the Minister of Sports of the Republic was reprimanded. The athlete was conditionally sentenced to 2 years under two articles: Violation of the Right to Freedom of Conscience and Religion and Incitement of Hatred or Enmity, as well as Humiliation of Human Dignity.
