Mamayev’s lawyer complains to prosecutor's office about red-tapery
The investigation allegedly deliberately delays the start of familiarization of the defense with the football players’ case materials.
Igor Bushmanov, the lawyer of football player Pavel Mamayev, accused of hooliganism and assault, filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office about the investigation, which allegedly caused red-tapery regarding familiarization with the case materials. The lawyer told Sport24 about this.
“The investigator tells us neither the date nor what prevents the beginning of the familiarization. I filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office on this issue, pointing out that red-tapery is allowed regarding reading the case materials, which violates the right to access to justice so that the prosecutor has the opportunity to thoroughly examine this criminal case before being sent to court,” Bushmanov explained.
The lawyer noted that red-tapery prolongs the Mamayev's custody term, and the athlete may lose his athletic form. However, so far he has no complaints about his health.
It is to be recalled that Mamayev became a defendant in a criminal case after participating in fights on October 8, 2018 near Moscow’s Beijing Hotel and a cafe in the city center. Football players Alexander Protasovitsky and Alexander Kokorin, as well as the younger brother of the latter, Kirill, are also defendants in the same case.
