LGBT community tells about new abuses against gays in Chechnya
Kadyrov’s spokesman called the charges disinformation.
Messages about the resumption of persecution of gays in the Chechen Republic spread on social networks. Their authors are asked to take the news seriously and flee to other countries. Harassment of gay people was confirmed by sources of the Russian LGBT Network and Novaya Gazeta.
“All this, in literary language, is untruth and disinformation. There are no prisons and places of detention in the Chechen Republic that are not part of the FSIN system,” RBC quotes Alvi Karimov, the press secretary of head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, as saying.
In April 2017, Novaya Gazeta wrote about mass detentions of homosexuals, who were then allegedly tortured, and some were killed, in secret prisons. The OSCE considers cases of such tortures and murders proven, while the Russian authorities accused the latter of negligence.
Seventeen Russian Governors are facing criminal prosecution for bribe-taking. The rest of them may be jailed any time for exceedance of official powers. At least, Nezygar (@russica2) Telegram channel claims so citing an unidentified source in the law enforcement structures. However, according to that source, it is currently prohibited to prosecute top-level officials. In 2018, the operatives had only searched offices of Vice Governors or Deputy Ministers – not their bosses. The CrimeRussia found out what supreme functionaries are on the hook of the law enforcement authorities and may be immediately indicted if the President orders so.
