The officers were acquitted for the main charge – sexual abuse.

Abakan’s court sentenced three employees of IK-33 in Khakassia: Major Yevgeny Chichinin and senior lieutenants Dmitry Zolotukhin and Ilya Vasilyev, who were found guilty of beating prisoners. One of the victims after being tortured had to have his left kidney removed. The defendants received relatively mild punishment, as the court acquitted them on the main charge – rape, Kommersant reports.

Chichinin received six years in a general regime penal colony, Zolotukhin and Vasiliev — 5 years each. The defendants pleaded innocent. The representative of one of the victims, Natalya Mons, intends to appeal the verdict, as she considers the punishment not harsh enough.

The victim in the case is Sergey Buynitsky, 31, who after being torture was operated on to get his left kidney removed. The officers allegedly dipped the other prisoner head into the waste pit, after which raped with a baton. The victims filed claims for moral damages totaling 6 million rubles ($ 94,000).
