Kaliningrad deputy faces 2 years in jail for running over pedestrian
In the Kaliningrad region, a 59-year-old deputy of the regional Council of deputies of Chernyakhovsky municipal district was brought to justice for running over a pedestrian.
A criminal case was initiated under part 1 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code (Violation of Traffic Rules and Rules for Operation of Transport Vehicles).
According to the court files, the accident occurred back on September 27. The official was driving his BMW along Octyabrskaya Street in the town of Chernyakhovsk located in the Kaliningrad region between 20:00 and 21:10, and ran over a 33-year-old man near house number 5. Experts say that the accident violated item 10.1 of the Traffic regulations of the Russian Federation, which includes speed infringement.
The accident caused severe injuries to the victim, detrimental to his overall health.
At the moment, the authorities are looking into all the facts. They continue investigating the criminal case against the officer, who is now facing up to 2 years in custody.
