Police have detained a man in the Irkutsk region. The man had been on a wanted list for 24 years in a case into an attempt of murder of his female cohabitant and her little daughter, reports RIA Novosti. All this time, the suspect had been living in the woods. He was made leave the forest by the flood in a city of Tulun.

The 72-year-old escapee was taken to the Tulun city hospital - along with other suffered from the flood. He was diagnosed with hypothermia and multiple injuries. He did not have any documents. The data about him was added to the database from what he said. After that, police arrived at the hospital with inspection.

The office of investigations of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Kemerovo region reported that the pensioner was accused of an attempt of murder of 2 persons including an underage girl. He committed the crime in 1995. During the conflict, he stabbed his cohabitant a few times and her 6-year-old daughter, and then himself. All of them were taken to a hospital, but the man escaped.

Durin the interrogation with the Investigative Committee of Russia, the man pleaded guilty and said he thought the woman and her daughter had died. He says he hid in the woods of Taiga to get away with it. He lived in the woods alone and did hunting. He sold the game to the locals and tourists.

Tashtagolsky district court arrested the pensioner. He was accused of murder attempt. At the present time, he’s going through the psychiatric examination. If he is found guilty, he will face up to 20 years behind bars.
