Investigative Committee initiated case against chief of Kemerovo fire department
According to the investigation, Sergey Genin ignored the eyewitnesses' words that there are many people in one of the cinema halls and that the shortest way to this hall is the staircase at the western entrance.
The commander of the fire unit, which arrived to fight the fire in the Zimnyaya Vishnya shopping center in Kemerovo, is suspected of negligence. The ICR General Directorate for the investigation of priority cases initiated a case against Sergey Genin under part 3 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Negligence). This was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee.
According to the investigation, Genin, having cognized from eyewitnesses about the large number of people, including children, in the cinema hall on the 4th floor of a burning shopping center, did not use the shortest route, but sent his unit to a distant flight of stairs, the exit from which was locked. As a result, firefighters lost time.
Out of Genin's mistake, 37 people were killed in the cinema hall.
The fireman’s apartment is searched. He will be detained soon; the court will impose the measure of restraint.
The fire in Zimnyaya Vishnya occurred on March 25. It killed 64 people, including 41 children.
By approving the pension reform, Russian lawmakers have admitted the frailty of life. For instance, 62-year-old Viktor Ozerov, Senator from the Khabarovsk Krai, has suddenly got tired and decided to retire. ‘Authoritative’ businessman Aleksander Shishkin is eager to succeed him. A former Senator and member of the Committee for Defense and Security, Shishkin is concerned about his personal safety and immunity.
