Ingushetia: 13 ex-police officers persecuted for refusal to disperse rally

The battalion of the accused was disbanded after the protests in Magas.

Criminal cases are filed against 13 Ingush police officers on the failure to comply with an order (Art. 286.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) out of a refusal to disperse a rally held in March in Magas – the protest against a change of the Ingush-Chechen border. The trial will be held behind closed doors, according to MBK Media.

The day before, the accused tried to challenge their dismissal in court but failed.

The rally in Magas took place on March 26 and continued the next day. The traffic police battalion did not disperse the protesters; they tried to negotiate with the elders. Later the battalion was disbanded, 17 policemen were fired.
