“I really enjoyed the brain.” Nominee for Poet of Year sentenced to 19 years for murder and cannibalism
22-year-old citizen of a town of Valday (Novgorod’s region) Dmitry Luchin intentionally murdered 45-year-old woman he dated.
Novgorod region court has found 22-year-old Dmitry Luchin guilty of murder and cannibalism, reports Novgorod, a local portal.
Luchin who nearly won The Poet of the Year Awards in 2016 has been sentenced to 19 years behind bars and a 1.5 million rubles ($22.7 thousand) fine he shall pay to the victim’s son as a compensation for moral damage.
Court and investigation found that Luchin met the 45-year-old on social networks last year. On the night of March 8 and 9, 2017, he came to her place, and a quarrel ensued between them. The young poet beat the woman to death. With that, later the poet confessed that he intentionally triggered the controversy as he planned to kill the woman.
The suspect was detained a few hours after the crime. While examining the scene, the investigators “discovered extensive evidence of cannibalism.” The poet confessed that he “liked the taste of blood from the glass” and “really enjoyed the brain.” He wrote a poem on the wall with the victim’s blood: “Body’s orgasm is so evanescent. Pure soul is what my heart longs for. With its orgasm splendid ever more.”
Luchin was ruled sane by the forensic psychiatric examination. His sentence has not entered into force yet, so the defense is expected to move for a new trial.
