Head physician fired after video of baby with mouth taped shut, Ingushetia
The video was taken by one of the hospital patients.
Hadi Ugurchiyeva, chief medical officer of the Perinatal Center in Ingushetia, was dismissed amid a scandal over a video in which a pacifier was taped to a newborn, Interfax reported citing a source familiar with the situation.
“The reason for the decision was an incident with a newborn child who had his mouth taped shut,” the agency’s source added.
The video was published on an Instagram page called Novosti Ingushetii in early January. The comments said that the video had been shot by one of the patients of the center.
The footage caused a wide public response followed by scrutiny from the police and prosecutors.
“The video was taken in a ward, by a patient of our department, unfortunately. She got in when the nurse in charge of the ward was conducting the inhalation procedure in the next ward. It was just a few minutes. We believe the patient was the one who did it” the hospital commented.
RIA Novosti said citing a police source that the information was accurate and that the patient admitted that she was the one who had taped the baby’s mouth shut.
