Head of St. Petersburg Kolpino sentenced to 8 years' imprisonment for assault
A court found Vadim Ivanov guilty. The official will serve his sentence in strict security penal colony.
District court of Saint Petersburg sentenced Vadim Ivanov, the head of the municipality and the deputy of the municipal council of Kolpino city, to eight years in maximum security penal colony for assault, court press-office reported about it.
The court fully supported position of prosecution and sentenced Vadim Ivanov to the term, which the prosecutor requested. Moreover, victims will receive 370 thousand rubles ($6.2 thousand) for material damage and 400 thousand rubles ($6.7 thousand) for moral damage.
As the investigation revealed, Ivanov and his friend responded to a request of the drug-addicted woman, to rob her sister. They trapped the victim in the stairwell, the deputy and his accomplice beat the woman and her companion and took 1 million rubles ($16.9 thousand).
Ivanov did not plead guilty and told that the case was fabricated. According to him, he was sent to a jail due to 'garbage lobby', which seeks the construction of incinerator factory in Krasniy Bor village.
