“He was sleeping with me in the bed.” Wife of Ufimian police officer suspected of rape abuse states about his alibi
In the woman’s words, her husband was at home that night.
Vasilya, a wife of Pavel Yaromchuk, one of the suspects of collective rape, stated that her husband slept at home that night. Her comments were on air at Vesti-Bashkortostan TV-programme.
Let us recall that her husband, a head of Migration Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs in Ufimsky district, as well as Eduard Matveev, a head of Department of Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Ufimsky district, and Salavat Galiev, a head of Department of Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Karmaskalinsky district, are accused of raping a woman who worked as an interrogating officer on the night of October 29 to 30.
According to the 23-year-old victim, overnight into Tuesday, the police officers were drinking up alcohol inside their office. Then, they summoned a girl who worked with them as an interrogating officer and didn’t let her out. They were abusing her all night. Next morning, she filed a complaint with the Investigative Committee. According to RIA Novosti with reference to its source within law enforcement agencies in Bashkortostan, she was not brought to the chief officer’s office by force - she came with her girlfriend. And more importantly, expertise found alcohol in her blood.
Yaromchuk made a plea deal with the investigation and is now a witness in the case. His wife stated that she trusts her husband while on air.
“He was at home on Monday night. He came home and slept with me in the bed.” Vasilya said. In the woman’s words, her husband didn’t come home the next night when he was detained.

Interestingly, one of the suspects, Matveev, has already been a defendant in the criminal case. In the early 2010s, he was accused of selling a stolen vehicle, however then he managed to get away with it. Besides that, the former head of the police was a close associate of a prosecutor Ramil Garifullin who is accused of corrupt practices.
The victim woman, according to some reports, is a daughter of Irek Sagitov, a Deputy Director of the National Guard of Russia (Rosgvardia) in Bashkortostan. In July, this year, she has graduated from Ufa law institute and started working as an interrogating officer in Ufimsky district department of Russia’s MIA in Bashkortostan.
