France detains group of Chechens over terrorist attacks in Spain
The acts of terrorism were committed in Barcelona and Cambrils.
Six Chechens have been detained in a special operation in France. France Info says citing its sources that the men are suspected of involvement in the terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils.
The suspects were detained in Gironde, Lower Rhine and Haute-Garonne. The police stressed that the investigative actions are not related to the May 12 attack by Khamzat Azimov, a man from Chechnya.
The Catalonia attacks were committed on August 17 and 18, 2017: first in the heart of Barcelona, when a truck knocked over a hundred people on a pedestrian street and a van crashed into pedestrians in the city of Cambrils. 16 people were killed and more than a hundred were injured in the attacks.
The five criminals involved in the Cambrils act were eliminated. The key suspect in the terrorist attack in Barcelona was also killed and two of his accomplices were detained. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the terrorist attacks.
