France accuses Russian Athletics Federation ex-president of corruption
Law enforcement agencies get an arrest warrant for Balakhnichev and a Russian national team former coach.
The French court sanctioned the arrest of the former President of the Russian Athletics Federation (RusAthletics), Valentin Balakhnichev, and the former senior coach of the Russian national team, Alexey Melnikov. They are accused of fraud and corruption related to the violation of doping rules, AFP reports citing its sources.
According to investigators, the defendants bribed former head of the International Association of Athletics Federations Lamine Diack for concealing positive doping tests.
In 2015, after the doping scandal, Diack was arrested, but soon released, and Balakhnichev was expelled from IAAF for life.
