Previously, the former official was tried for swindling committed while working in the tax office.
The court in Omsk sentenced the former head of the Kormilovsky District, Iosif Rovein, 62, to 9.5 years in a strict regime penal colony for murdering his 36-year-old wife (part 1 of Article 105 CCRF) and ordered to pay 4 million rubles ($ 60,000) to the relatives of the deceased. The trial took place with the participation of jurors, the regional ICR’s Directorate reported.
According to the investigation and the court, on the evening of May 31, 2018, in an apartment building on Linia Street 9 in Omsk, Rovein stabbed his wife seven times during an argument over the divorce proceedings. In 2014, the ex-official was convicted of swindling (part 4 of Article 159 CCRF). As a result, in 2008-2009, Rovein, working as head of the inter-district inspection of the Federal Tax Service, together with the head of the legal entities tax department and the director of Agrotekhnik LLC, stole more than 5 million rubles ($ 75,000), providing fictitious documents on recovering VAT from the budget.
The Prosecutor General's Office had earlier accused the Moscow region’s ex-official of exceeding official authority, taking a bribe on an especially large scale, and forgery, and demanded to seize assets worth of 9 billion rubles ($135 million) from him.
