Two years of the term Gamburg has already spent in remand prison. The official prosecution demanded only 4 years in colony for the high-ranking bureaucrat.

Central Omsk Court delivered a decision on a case of former first deputy governor of the Omsk Region Yury Gamburg, who was accused in abuse of office.

In adjusting part of a sentence, the judge has admitted guilt of Gamburg on all episodes. He was accused in seven crimes under art. 286 para. 3 subpara. «v» of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of office with serious consequences) and one crime under art. 286 para. 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of office). The official prosecution asked to convict the former bureaucrat for the speculations with land to 4 years of imprisonment in general regime penal colony with disablement of holding positions in public authorities and local government for three years.

As a result, judge Aleksey Polishchuk convicted him to 5,5 years of imprisonment.

«Gamburg worked deliberately within excess of the powers of office for the benefit of natural and legal entities,» - said the judge.

In 2008-2012, being a director of the department of property relations in Omsk, Yury Gamburg together with his deputy Vadim Merenkov signed documents on granting in property of 26 land parcels with total area of 26,5 ha under kitchen gardens and also under improvement and organization of a recreation area. The property was granted to five citizens and commercial organization Limited Liability Company Krona for an obviously underestimated cost.

In fact, all parcels were in zone of a housing estate and intended under housing construction, including personal cottages.

As a result of illegal land parcels’ alienation, the damage to budgets of Omsk and the Omsk Region estimated at 200 million rubles.

What is more, in July 2007, without any tender, Gamburg signed an agreement, according to which a female-entrepreneur became an owner of Charodeyka shop in the center of Omsk with an area 300 square meters. The damage to the city was estimated at 7,5 million rubles. The court has obliged him to indemnify only this loss.

Yury Gamburg was arrested on summer 2014. During the investigation he did not admit his guilt and claimed that all his activities were legal. It also worth mentioning, that another accused official Vadim Merenkov is on international wanted list.

The lawyers tried to prove that the land parcels could not have been expansive as there was an abandoned animal burial site.

Moreover, some interesting details from the official’s biography occurred during the investigation. The information appeared that criminal lord of the 90-s – Oleg Spiridonov (Spiridon) – gave testimony against Yury Gamburg, claiming that on 20 October 1998 he allegedly shot dead a criminal authority Aleksander Komarov, nicknamed Sirota (Orphan) from a sawed-off shotgun.

He also was suspected in participation in organized criminal grouping Sirotskies, where he allegedly was a lawyer. These accusations Gamburg categorically denied and while being in remand prison even sued the mass media, which published the data on his criminal past.
