Ex-Colonel of Defense Ministry made an attempt to escape from prison
Now he will get an additional term for his escape.
Former Colonel of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Andrey Belyaev, convicted of high treason, made unsuccessful attempt to escape from a prison in Dmitrovgrad.
According to RIA Novosti, Belyaev attempted to escape, using "the slackening of control by the colony's employees." Having arbitrarily left "the territory of the local section of the detachment of convicts", he reached the main fence of the inner restricted area. But he was caught there.
Andrey Belyaev was sentenced to 12 years of strict regime for high treason in October last year. He was sentenced to a minimum punishment under this article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Details of the criminal case were not covered in the media, since the materials were classified as secret. There was no mention of the country in favor of which the high treason was committed, it is only known that the evidence included a residence permit in Sweden.
The court found Andrey Belyaev guilty of attempted escape from prison and sentenced, taking into account the previous term, to 11.5 years in a strict regime colony.
The prosecutors want the former Russian Federation Council member to go to prison for 14 years instead of 9 and pay a 500-million-ruble ($8.8 million) fine instead of 70 million rubles ($1.2 million).
