Drunken European MMA champion knocked out police officers in North Ossetia
The athlete knocked out of one of the traffic police officers and managed to disarm the second one.
North Ossetian police detained a heavyweight fighter, European champion in mixed martial arts Mikhail Gazayev, who, while intoxicated, attacked police officers, Komsomolskaya Pravda pens.
Traffic police officers stopped the VAZ-2109 of the athlete in Ardonsky district of the republic, to which he reacted aggressively. When the guards demanded him to produce his documents, he boorishly refused. Then the police demanded that the champion get out of the car, and a scuffle ensued. As a result, the athlete knocked out one of the law enforcement officers and managed to take the service weapon from the second one. Then Gazayev fled the scene. According to the injured law enforcement officers, he was drunk.
Gazayev's career ended after three fights in the professional ring. In 2013, he was targeted in an investigation and was convicted of attacking police officers as well, after which he had to quit the big-time sports.
As for the current incident, a criminal case was initiated under the articles Use of Violence Against the Authorities, Theft of Weapons and Ammunition. Subsequently, one of the athlete's friends was suspected in the arms trade. The investigation into the high-profile case is ongoing, told the press service of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.
The detention is related to the investigation into the abduction and murder of Tatyana Sidorova, a deputy of the Ramenskoye District Legislature, and three members of her family, which occurred back in 2012.
