Deputy loses seat for attacking policeman with a shovel

The Internal Affairs officer stood up for the deputy’s girlfriend, which made him angry.

A deputy in the Verkhnevilyui district of Yakutia had to resign after an attack on a police officer, reported the press service of the prosecutor's office of the region.

The incident occurred on June 22, 2019 during the Ysyakh Summer Festival (a cult celebration of nature rebirth) in a Yakut village, Russia. The policeman remarked that the drunken man was treating his girlfriend disrespectfully and told him to stop.

The deputy ran away from the policeman but he began to pursue him. Then the parliamentarian took a shovel and hit the policeman several times.

A criminal case was opened. The deputy got a fine and had to resign.
