Deputy head of Orenburg Region colony under investigation for violence against prisoners
The investigation also verifies involvement of other colony employees.
Investigative bodies instituted criminal proceedings against the deputy head of the correctional colony of the Orenburg Region, who is suspected of abuse of power with the use of violence against convicts, the press service of the ICR’s regional Investigative Directorate reported.
“A criminal case has been initiated against the 37-year-old deputy head of the FKU of the IK-3 of the Russian FSIN Directorate in the Orenburg Region. He is suspected of committing crimes under part 1 of Article 286 CCRF (abuse of power) and clause part 3(a) of Article 286 CCRF(abuse of power with the use of violence),” the report says.
According to the investigation, from January 2015 to August 2016, the suspect, together with some colony staff in the city of Novotroitsk, “committed unlawful acts against convicts, inciting them to cooperate with the colony administration and conceal shortcomings in its work.”
In addition, it is reported that in August 2018 the suspect concealed the fact of disorganization of the institution.
Currently, within the criminal case, a set of investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident is continuing: a number of forensic examinations have been appointed and interrogations of witnesses are being conducted. The investigation also verifies the version of the involvement of other employees of the colony in these crimes.
