Criminal Investigation Department searched after policemen get arrested for extortion
Police officers are suspected of stealing amber worth 1.5 million rubles.
Investigators conduct operational and search activities in offices and homes of the policemen suspected of robbery and extortion, according to the Investigative Committee. Traffic police patrols and pickpocketing department offices of the Criminal Investigation Department of Prefecture of the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky Administrative Districts were searched.
According to the investigation, in March 2016 in a shopping mall of Novomoskovsky district’s Moskovsky village policemen robbed a businessman of his amber worth 1.5 million rubles before illegally rummaging through his car and seizing 200 thousand rubles, then threatening prosecution forced him to withdraw 200 thousands from his bank card.
According to the Investigative Committee, all the perpetrators have been identified and a criminal case has been initiated under part 3 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code (Exceeding Official Powers). The agency added that the offenders’ superiors would also be held accountable.
According to Margarita Vennberg, Ivan Rubin borrowed 40 thousand euros from businessman Vladimir Tyurenkov about a year ago. When Rubin delayed payments, Tyurenkov raised interest, and the amount of the debt increased to 70 thousand euros.
