Criminal case initiated against leader of Libertarian Party because of post published seven years ago

Mikhail Svetov is charged with depraved acts because of photographs of half-naked minor girls.

One of the leaders of the Libertarian Party, 34-year-old Mikhail Svetov, was summoned to the ICR for interrogation in the case of depraved acts (Article 135 CCRF) because of photographs of half-naked minor girls. The photos were allegedly in blog post from a 2012 on the oppositionist’s Instagram page, MBKh Media reported.

The FSB officers searched Svetov’s apartment, the deputy chairman of the Libertarian Party, Yaroslav Conway wrote on Twitter. A picket in support of Mikhail Svetov is being held on Arbat, near the Vakhtangov Theater, Readovka writes. 

In August 2019, Roskomnadzor added Svetov’s old Instagram page, where the last post was dated 2016 – before the libertarian entered politics, to the register of banned information REN-TV writes. Roskomnadzor considered some of the photos on the blog to be child pornography. 

The Libertarian Party has repeatedly organized protests in Moscow, including a July 20 rally on Sakharov Avenue. The most famous member of the party is Mikhail Svetov. On September 15, Svetov began a tour of Russian cities, where he held political lectures.
