Chief of infamous Matrosskaya Tishina prison replaced after scandal with VIP cells
The pre-trial detention center is now headed by Lieutenant-Colonel of Justice, Sergey Pozdeev.
In the Moscow pre-trial detention center No. 1 Matrosskaya Tishina, a new head has been appointed. Lieutenant-Colonel of Justice Sergey Pozdeev received the post. Head of the Moscow Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service Sergey Moroz announced that on Monday, February 19, to journalists.
According to him, the new head of the detention facility has several tasks – to form a new work staff, and to bring Matrosskaya Tishina to the level of the best isolators of the country.
“We hope that he will be able to form a working team because there are certain problems with cadres. A lot of managerial positions are vacant at the moment. We will support him in appointing people to positions so that Matrosskaya Tishina keeps on its way of perspective development and became one of the leading isolators of our country,” said Moroz, quoted by the news agency Moskva.
He added that earlier, Pozdeev held the post of deputy head of the FSIN department for the Kirov Region and supervised its operational work.
It is to be recalled that the scandal with VIP cells in Matrosskaya Tishina became public late last year when elite cameras were found by human rights activists of the Public Monitoring Commission. According to one of the members of the Commission, Eva Merkacheva, these cells are equipped with modern home appliances and are quite spacious. At the same time, on the other floor, “regular” cells are often overcrowded, unsanitary conditions prevail in them. After checking these facts, the former head of the penitentiary facility, Vladimir Klochek, was dismissed from his service.
The situation on international markets is worsening because of trade wars and protectionist policies. However, Dmitry Medvedev noted that the Government expects the expansion of the Russian economy until 2024.
