Chaika and Bastrykin to check Sobyanin's expenditure for Christmas tree decorations
Deputy of the State Duma Valery Rashkin said that the capital Mayor's office has planned indecently large sum for the decoration of the city for the New Year.
Parliamentarian Valery Rashkin applied to the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation with a request to check expenses of the capital Mayor's office on the celebration of the New Year. RBC writes about it with reference to the message of the Communist Party website.
The deputy asks departments to establish whether such high expenditure is reasonable and lawful. Thus, for example, last year Sobyanin's team has spent for festivals in the capital 3 billion rubles ($52 million). According to Rashkin, for this sum, it was possible to buy Christmas tree decorations for several years.
“Now there are catastrophically high tariffs for the communal flat and food prices, and we spend incommensurably huge amounts of money for New Year's toys. There are suspicions that the prices of such goods are overstated therefore I also asked the Investigative Committee to look at tenders and whether the prices correspond to market value,” Rashkin told the portal.
He added that he was interested in the subject in connection with a speech of Head of the capital Department of Trade and Services Alexey Nemeryuk who the other day has told about plans of the Mayor's office to spend 930 million rubles ($16 million) for the celebration of the New Year. As TASS reported, the Mayor's office has said that it is about 30% less than the previous year.
“If, as companion Nemeryuk claims, it is considered a model of the economy, then this is disgrace,” Rashkin emphasized.
