Case of death of 25 people during floods in Irkutsk Region transferred to Moscow
The ICR”s Central Office will investigate into the negligence.
Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin transferred the materials of the procedural inspections and the criminal case of negligence during floods in the Irkutsk Region to the Central Office of the department. During the flood, 25 people died, the ICR’s spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko reports.
Bastrykin held an operational meeting in Bratsk, where he listened to the report on the results of the investigation into the causes of death in floods. After that, the materials were transferred to investigators of the ICR’s Central Office.
The ICR head ordered to clarify the circumstances of the emergency situation, identify the perpetrators of negligence and, if necessary, provide legal assistance to the victims.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Irkutsk Region. He noted that the floods would not have been so destructive if it was not for illegal logging. Putin met with the residents of Tulun and listened to the problems they faced after the emergency.
The natural disaster affected 107 settlements, 38 thousand people were injured, seven are missing. The flood caused significant damage to infrastructure and destroyed 3,5 thousand homes. The region receives humanitarian aid, but there is no proper space to place it.
