Butina admits working against United States under supervision of Russian official
The next hearing is scheduled for February 12, 2019.
Maria Butina, who is accused of violating the law on foreign agents in the USA, pleaded guilty and admitted to following the instructions of a Russian official to expand the sphere of political influence of the Russian Federation in the States. Now, her defense team will not be able to appeal the decision of the court. The next court hearing is scheduled for February 12, 2019.
The court of the Columbia District accepted Butina’s confession. The Russian citizen can be deported to homeland. Earlier, Butina was also accused of espionage, but this article is not mentioned in the court records.
Presumably, influential people with whom contacts should be established for further use in the interests of Russia were determined by ex-senator Alexander Torshin, who was also deputy head of the Russian Central Bank before his dismissal in 2018.
