Buryatia: policeman accused of kidnapping

The MIA employee had accomplices.

A police officer accused of Kidnapping (items a, c, d, f part 2 of Art. 126 of the Russian Criminal Code) and Exceeding Official Powers (items a, b part 3 of Art. 286) has been placed in custody by decision of the Supreme Court of the Republic. This is reported by the court’s press service.

According to the case file, the policeman acted in collusion with accomplices. A group of men kidnapped the victim, using force and threatening him with a weapon. The victim was a friend of a friend of one of the accomplices. This man stole a TV set from a woman, and the group of men was beating his friend, trying to find out the whereabouts of the thief.

After unsuccessful attempts, the abducted person was released. He went to the police.

The press service’s materials also say the police officer is accused of Extortion (items a and с part 2 of Art. 163) and Theft (item g part 2 of Art. 161), but no details are reported yet.

The republic’s MIA Directorate told Baykal-Daily that the detainee was already dismissed from the police after a service check.
