Bashkiria: policeman and deputy busted on poaching
The Republic’s law enforcement bodies have initiated a criminal case under Art. 258 of the Russian Criminal Code (Illegal Hunting).
A district council deputy and police officer have been detained on suspicion of Poaching in the Blagovarsky district, the Republic of Bashkortostan. This is reported by the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Bashkortostan.
According to preliminary data, the people’s deputy and the law enforcer have illegally killed three roe deer and four hares. Trying to get rid of the evidence, they left the carcasses of animals at the crime scene.
The TV channel’s website shows a short video of one of the alleged poachers being detained. In the video, a police officer inspects a snowmobile and finds a loaded hunting rifle. Rifle owner says he planned to hunt hares. Shortly afterwards, a roe carcass was discovered by the snowmobile.
The Republic’s law enforcement bodies have initiated a criminal case under Art. 258 of the Russian Criminal Code (Illegal Hunting). This charge provides for a fine of 500 thousand rubles ($454) or a prison term of up to two years.
The police are now establishing the exact circumstances of what happened. A service check is being conducted against the detained law enforcer.
