Attack on Mirzaev: another version called
Rasul Mirzaev

Before the attack Rasul Mirzaev stood up for fighter Artem Lobov, who had quarrel with natives of Dagestan.

MMA fighter Rasul Mirzaev stood up for Artem Lobov, an Irish fighter of Russian origin. According to  Life, on the eve of the attack they were in a Moscow club, where Lobov had a quarrel with people from Dagestan because of a possible fight between Irish fighter Conor McGregor and Dagestani Habib Nurmagomedov. The dispute turned into a quarrel, then Mirzayev stood up for the fighter. Security of the club stopped the fight and separated the fighters. Thus, according to a friend of Rasul Mirzaev, the attack in the apartment could be the continuation of the conflict in the club.

December 31, 2016, at about 2 a.m., there was an attack on Mirzaev in his apartment on Vostochnaya Street, Moscow. Three men are suspected to be involved in the crime. They shot Mirzaev several times from a traumatic gun and then tried to break his legs and stifle him with a chain. However Mirzaev managed to fight back. After the attack, they left, taking keys to the apartment, as well as money and jewelry. Yet because of the rush, they left the gun and the chain at the scene.

The door to the apartment was opened by a familiar with the victim. Immediately after the attack Mirzaev contacted his close friend, who came to the apartment, called the police and doctors.

At the hospital, doctors removed two bullets from Mirzaev’s body. Revenge motive among the close circle of the fighter was excluded.

One of the versions of the attack is considered to be his sports career. The unknown might want to disable him to take part in the upcoming fight between Mirzayev and his rival Makashvili, which is to be canceled. Earlier in November, Mirzayev lost in a fight for the first time in his MMA career.

Another version of revenge for the murder of student Ivan Agafonov is being considered.

November 27, 2012 the Zamoskvoretskiy Moscow court sentenced Mirzaev to two years in prison, finding him guilty of causing death by negligence (Art. 109 of the Criminal Code). In August 2011, mixed martial arts fighter Rasul Mirzaev during the conflict in the center of Moscow in the night club Garage hit student Ivan Agafonov, who then was hospitalized and died several days later without regaining consciousness. November 27, 2012, the Zamoskvoretskiy Court in Moscow sentenced Mirzayev to two years of imprisonment, finding him guilty of causing death by negligence and relieved the athlete from custody in the courtroom. In January 2013, the Moscow City Court upheld the verdict of Mirzaev, rejecting a complaint of Agafonov’s relatives who considered the decision of the court too lenient.
