Saikhan Zelimkhanov, a public investigator assistant under the prosecutor’s office, who was on the wanted list for almost nine years on charges of violating traffic rules, was detained at Vnukovo Airport. The employee of the prosecutor’s office got behind the wheel of a Mercedes Gelendwagen SUV while drunk and, chasing a girl he liked, drove twice to the porch of a cafe, Chetvertaya Vlast reports.
On January 5, Zelimkhanov was about to fly from Moscow to Grozny. At passport control, he was detained by law enforcement officers. According to REN-TV, after the high-profile incident with a drunken accident, Zelimkhanov spent about a year abroad, and then returned to Moscow.
Seventeen Russian Governors are facing criminal prosecution for bribe-taking. The rest of them may be jailed any time for exceedance of official powers. At least, Nezygar (@russica2) Telegram channel claims so citing an unidentified source in the law enforcement structures. However, according to that source, it is currently prohibited to prosecute top-level officials. In 2018, the operatives had only searched offices of Vice Governors or Deputy Ministers – not their bosses. The CrimeRussia found out what supreme functionaries are on the hook of the law enforcement authorities and may be immediately indicted if the President orders so.
